I’m asleep. I wake up needing a drink of water. I get out of bed and realize it is completely dark, absolutely black. I can’t see anything not even my hand in front of my eyes. I extend my arms out to grope for familiar furniture, the wall, but touch nothing. After a few steps, I decide to return to bed not wanting to risk a fall or bumping into furniture. I turn and walk back to bed but can’t find it. I keep taking small steps and slightly bend at the waist reaching out to touch the bed but I can’t find it. I straighten up and walk toward where my bed should be but after many steps there is nothing. I keep walking extending my arms out in the darkness knowing I should eventually walk into a wall.
Suddenly, I touch a soft wall that gives as I push slightly. I push hard with both arms and a large eye lid opens revealing an eye looking directly at me.
I wake up.
